To get your handgun license, you first have to sign up for a class. Usually the class is about 4 hours and it consist of lecture, fingerprinting and live or simulate fire.
The Maryland State Police website is the best resource to find all the information that you need to start the HQL process.

Going to the range can be very intimidating, especially if it is your first time shooting. My advice is to hire an instructor, for new shooters and to make it less intimidating take a friend.
